International Austria. Hadid builds Libary & Learning Center.

Usually, the Austrian municipality is defending the local 'architecture market' against foreign competitors, thus, international architects rarely enter the competition. Today, the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration choose a different path: An international jury lead by Wolf Prix (Coop Himmelblau), has selected Zaha Hadid (she will do the biggest building – the Library and Learning Center), Hitoshi Abe, NO.MAD Arquitectos and CRABstudio (Peter Cook) for the design of the campus buildings. However, it is arguable whether the architects can meet the limited budget: can you build 100,000m² net areas for 250,000,000 Euro?

Miss Hadid is a colleague and friend of Prix at the University of Applied Arts, Hitoshi Abe has worked for Prix at Coop Himmelblau and Peter Cook? It's not a critique of the architects’ work, but maybe the jury system should be reformed some day.

I think, it is very funny that the University of Economics in Vienna is located only about 200 meters from very unsuccessful housing project of Zaha Hadid. (Huge budget, no tenants 3 years after completion, bankrupted developing company....) See http://www.flickr.com/photos/18732494@N00/99409729/

What a load of crap.

I agree with the other comments. Architecture has always been about who you know, not what you can do.
