Der Lauf der Dinge (The Way Things Go, 1987 ) is an art film by the Swiss artist duo Peter Fischli and David Weiss. The film shows the continuing cycle of object moved by gravitation, centripetal forces, moment of inertia, Newton's laws third of motion (“to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction”, source Wikipedia), and the principle of leverage. Everyday objects start “working”, and succeed in performing a “task”. The film was first shown at the documenta 8.
A selection of the objects used in the short film is sold at auction at Christie’s (estimate $755,939 - $1,259,898).
