Sunrise in Viganella - Reflecting Sun.

Between 11 November and 2 February the sun disappears in Viganella, an Italian Alpine village, that was built at the bottom of a steep valley. Three months the inhabitants of Viganella have to live without solar irradiation.

From now on Viganella is maybe the first and only village equipped with a heliostat. A motorised mirror (about 5m width) tracks the sun and reflects it to the main square of Viganella: the first winter sun ever in the village's 800 years of existence.

This is similar to Japanese systems where they use fiberoptics on top of buildings to pipe daylight throughout the building. People need their sun

I presume there is water running through the valley. If that's the case, I wonder how the winter sun will affect the natural cycle happening in the stream/river. Excess algea in warmer months?
