
On the 12th of December 2001, the UNESCO formerly announced that the Zeche Zollverein was added to the list of world heritage industrial monuments, partly on the basis of the OMA-Master plan which respects the old identity. The master plan is developed in close collaboration with world heritage specialists and conservationists, and will gradually get realised until 2010. (OMA)
The ENTRY2006 exhibition will be the first event at the newly opened former coal-washing plant, the "Kohlenwäsche", at the Zollverein. It takes place from 26th of August through the 3rd of December, 2006, with the focus on design.
Eye-catcher is the 60-meter long escalator which leads to the entrance. Maybe the people at OMA got their inspiration from Simpsons Marge vs. the Monorail (#9F10): And that (the monorail) was the only folly the people of Springfield ever embarked uopn.
