[Das Bild der Erde hängt von der Perspektive des Betrachters ab. Karten und Statistiken zu Wirtschaft und Demographie offenbaren davon dagegen meist wenig.]
The (cartographic) image of the world depends on people's view and the location. Typical maps hardly reveal regional distinctions.
The maps presented on this website are cartograms. (...) A cartogram re-sizes each country (or other geographical unit) according to some other variable - for example population, GDP, number of people with AIDS, etc.The maps are based mostly on freely available sources like the United Nations and the World Bank. Maps are categorised groups like for example Movement, Transport, Food, Manufactures, Services, Income, Wealth, Poverty, etc.
Worldmapper is a project by the University of Sheffield and the University of Michigan. (image by Worldmapper)
